CBT - what is it?

Hey,
I've been referred to a therapist for a course of CBT. I was just wondering what this is and how it will help me?
I used to suffer from panic attacks but these have subsided and left me with a strange and serious phobia of fainting. I just want to know what to expect really. I'm worried that my therapist may try and make me faint as a kind of shock therapy! Does that happen?
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

No that definitely won't happen!

CBT is about challenging thoughts and changing behaviours. I am currently having CBT. My therapist talks through everything with me and I decide what I want to work on and she gives me guidance on how.
