Barclay has said the transition period could be 3 years to 2022 with the option to extend a year or two beyond. Now if they go for the NI backstop that the EU originally offered, and May rejected, could Boris convince the DUP he would stop it ever coming to fruition by way of technology? And Boris is very close to the ERG so perhaps he can convince them to support a vote on the same basis? That may get it over the line with some support from other parties?
I still think this is the most viable option BUT the noises from the EU seem to support Amber Rudds observations that Boris isn't bringing solutions to the negotiating table. The Luxomberg debacle seems to have been embarassing for the UK and not helped that some journalists are only reporting 1/2 the story. e.g. Luxomberg refused to move it indoors and not why? they couldn't reset it indoors at short notice. Laura K guilty of this one at BBC.
