Would a Dr see cervical cancer?

    Hi All

Last yr I had some mid cycle brown spotting, lasted 3 cycles and went away. In March I had a period, then brown discharge at the end then 3 days of mid cycle brown spotting again (it happens 2 weeks after my period). I went to my GP. She said I have always had normal smears every 3 years. She said the brown at the end of the period is just old blood that takes some time to come away, and the brown mid cycle is hormonal and is quite common. She gave me a pelvic exam and said my cervix looks completely normal. My last smear was May 2015 and was normal. Would she be able to see if anything was worrying when she gave me a pelvic exam? I am 36.

    Thanks

I am pretty sure they can see abnormalities when doing pelvic exams. i know it's hard but try not to worry too much. You're ok!

Cervical cancer starts with pre cancerous cells, this is what the Pap test is for.
These pre cancerous cells are then watched closely or removed.
Cervical cancer takes many years to develop.
If your pap was normal last year you shouldn't worry.

A doc will look at your cervix to see if it looks healthy. If it doesn't, they will send you to a gynaecologist who will have a closer look, maybe perform a colposcopy. A smear test takes a scraping of cervix cells and tests them. It is slow growing.
