Unhappy Going to Dr tomorrow after having throat click for 6 months...

    Hi all,

I've finally plucked up the courage to see the GP tomorrow for a throat click that very randomly started in January 2016. I remember being in a shop and then suddenly feeling like there was a lump in my throat when I swallowed and it 'clicked'. I hoped it would just go away, but six months later, it's still there..

It's weird, it only happens when my neck is in the downward position (chin towards my chest). It's always in the same place (around the area where my right neck gland is under my jaw but located next to my esophagus). It almost feels swollen, but it hadn't got any 'worse' in all this time. My anxiety/stress has been sky high this year due to sh***y work and life stuff.

I have been so terrified about this. I'm really hoping it's just globus. (I have to see a women's specialist on Thursday for a possible cyst removal and I am terrified of surgery and honestly feel like I can only cope with so much at once!)

Has anyone been through anything similar?

    Thank you x

Please help. Going to ENT & convinced I have lymphoma now

I went to the GP today as for 7 months I have had a funny throat click when I swallow in the head down position (chin towards chest). It came on randomly and, even though it hasn't got worse, it hasn't gone either. I notice it most it most when reading etc as my head is down. It doesn't happen in the normal head position.

My GP did an examination and said that there was a bit of asymmetry where I indicated the click. He recommended an ultrasound. Because I have health insurance, he also said I might as well see an ENT specialist as well.

Anyway, he gave me the referral letter and it says:
"no voice change, no vomiting, nil other red flags. On examination I can feel a few scattered mobile rubbery lymph nodes in the neck. There does seem to be some asymmetry at the level she indicates."

I shouldn't have done this, but I goggled rubbery lymph nodes and it of course says... Lymphoma... HOdgkins lymphoma for the rubbery bit.

I haven't lost any weight, nor have I had night sweats or fever. I have had quite a few colds this year (more than usual) but I was hoping that was due to my extreme work stress (as was this...)

I am actually going nuts and out of my mind now with worry. I really thought it would just be globus. Please help. I don't know how I'm going to get through the night before I can call up for an appointment. I am shaking, crying, I can't control myself...

...I should have added... My GP wasnt actually that concerned, he said it might be my normal anatomy. But this has done nothing for my worry now...

Mobile nodes are a good thing! That's why Google is such a negative to the anxiety sufferer. It will tell you a sneeze is a sign of sinus cancer for goodness sakes! There's nothing, including your GP's assessment, that indicates anything to worry about.

Hi Fishmanpa, thank you so much for your reply, and I'm so sorry because I know you have actually had cancer. I'm so sorry to insult and burden you. I'm just sitting here crying uncontrollably. I think it was the rubbery definition that scared me... All references seem to say lymphoma...

It's not insulting in the least but it is sad that your anxiety does this to you. It makes you ignore all the positives and focus on the negatives given to you by a search engine as opposed to the real life medical professional who examined you. I makes you ignore the fact that in 7 months, you'd be incredibly ill. It makes you ignore that the doctor said "no voice change, no vomiting, no other red flags".

"When" you get the all clear, allow me to be one of the first to say "Told ya so"
