Switching from Citalopram to Sertraline 50MG

    Hey all,

long time depression sufferer here, came off meds altogether in 2013 and was prescribed citalopram in November 2015, these haven't been working so doc has changed me to sertraline 50mg.

He has told me to just stop the citalopram and start the sertraline.

    Has anyone else done this?

    Hi

I am too thinking about switching to Sertraline from Citilopram as it would appear although its helped me before isn't quite hitting the spot this time. Did you ever have any up days on citilopram, I suffer from GAD and just recently the anxiety has returned after a relapse when I was put back on Cit.

To answer your question my Pdoc mentioned that I would have to cross taper, I think that would mean cutting down by 20MG for a week or something similar (currently on 40) and then starting Zoloft at the starting dose. However that said when I was on it previously many moons ago my GP told me to do a straight swap and I didn't have any adverse effects.

    Thanks

I've taken citalopram, sertraline & now I'm on mirtazapine it worked at first but after a while it's not as effective. I've haad depression for like 15 years, a long time like you too. Tbh people say cancer & other diseases are untreatable & there's no cure until recently well I think there's no cure for Depression especially for those like me who have clinical/severe depression. The meds help but I think you have to take them for life. I dont think anyone with severe depression is gonna wake up one day & say I havent got depression anymore!
