    Biopsy today

Well today I had my endometrial biopsy, now I just have to wait for the results. I wasn't expecting to have the biopsy done today, a receptionist phoned me yesterday to ask if I could come in 15 minutes earlier as the consultant needed to get off to a meeting and I said that was fine, and by the way, would I be getting any tests or procedures done on my first visit? She said no, it was just a consultation and if the doctor thought I needed any tests then an appointment would be made for a later date.

So when he said he would do the biopsy today I was a bit taken aback and told him I wasn't expecting this. He said it was up to me, he could either do it today or make an appointment to come back in 2-3 weeks as a day surgery patient and have it done under general anaesthetic. I thought about it and decided to just go for it otherwise I would be spending the next 2-3 weeks worrying about it. The biopsy itself wasn't too bad (I'd heard horror stories) and he also removed a small polyp at the same time. It was a bit uncomfortable but not agonising and I'm glad I didn't chicken out and opt for a later date.

He said there is a 5% chance that it could be cancer, but in 95% of cases the results come back normal.

Keep everything crossed for me folks!

He was never going to be able to say that it would be 100% OK but well done for going ahead with it there and then. No point in putting it off and adding to your waiting game which is long enough anyway.

The waiting for results is horrible but has to be done. Every day is a day towards your all-clear .Keep posting on here if you feel it helps you and we can support you through the wait xx

Thank you everyone, I'm trying to focus on the 95% and not the 5% lol.

He did say that even if it was cancer it's the type that can be treated by having a hysterectomy, so that is something to hold onto too.

Hey Mojo! Not too sure why you're having your endo biopsy but I just went through this too due to irregular bleeding after periods. Turns out I had polyps. I totally understand your fears since I just went through this. I found it helpful to focus on the 95%!

Hoping you're feeling ok as that biopsy is THE PITS!

    Big hugs.

Hello Mojo, I totally relate to how you are feeling. I had random spotting for a couple years during perimenopause. In my mind, if it didn't last more then 10 days it was just a 'light period" .. then the spotting came and didn't stop.

I was at 5 weeks when I went to the gynecologist. I was positive this was something bad.

She said she I needed an endometrial biopsy (among other tests), I could make an appointment or she could do it right then and there.

I was already scared out of my mind.. I didn't want to go home and wait for yet another appointment so I let her do it right then.

I told her how horrible waiting for test results was for me, she prescribed 10 xanax pills.
I took 1/2 a few times and it really did help.

My issue turned out to be perimenopause and fibroids. In other words, normal and common.

Thing is, I was absolutely positive my luck had run out, who bleeds for weeks and weeks on end??

Just wanted to share because so many of us go through things that to us seem dire.. and in the end, we're really ok. :-)

My wish for you is that the days go by quickly and you get your good results and can have peace of mind.

Yeah, you did the right thing, Mojo. Sometimes they just want to get it done rather than put you on hold further since the quicker they deal with you, the quicker they discharge you.

My dad & brother have both had biopsies. My dad did have a form of skin cancer so they dealt with that quickly but the specialist new what it was just from looking at it, and it's a very common & easily treated one anyway. In my brothers case he had an inflamed nodule in his throat and he had to have a general whilst they did that biopsy. The consultant said exactly what yours has - it may be cancer but that's at the rare end of the spectrum and it's more like X, Y or Z. His consultant said they have to make patients aware of possibility but their opinion in terms of how likely is what that matters. His was nothing and they whipped it out to stop it causing more pain.

I'm sure you will be fine.
