5HTP

Hiya everyone. I have recently read a brilliant book called 'the mood cure' and have finally got over my problem with tablet taking and started on 5HTP. During the day I'm fine and can already feel some benefit but I am still having the problem of waking up in a panic at 3.00am. So, my question is, how long does this supplement take to fully alleviate symptoms? I have also stepped up my protein comsumption as recommended and take 50mg of 5HTP mid afternoon and then another dose at bedtime. I am being very brave and have cut out all caffeine (not easy!!) so I think i am doing good things to help my problem. I'd be grateful for any ideas peeps!! best wishes, Maz xx

It's me again! Forget the original post-I have taken myself off the 5HTP because it made my anxiety much worse. I was waking up at 3.00 (as usual) but with much more panic. Things are settling down a bit now but it was horrid for a while. Apparently, this is a known side effect if a rare one (trust me to get it LOL). There are other suggested supplements I can try but I am going to see a nutritionalist before I try anything new!
