    I am really scared

My appointment with the GI is on Thursday, my BM and stomach issues have not changed and whilst I am trying to be calm about the whole situation I am literally PETRIFIED of first what they say on Thursday and then the whole colonoscopy.

I am really having a hard time coping and it consumes me everyday to the point where I think I cause my own stomach pains! I know there is something wrong with my bowels but WHAT is the question, the only thing I can think of if a tumor growing inside my colon making all these changes. I hardly feel like eating these days and force myself, most days I am consuming about 1200 cal and other about 900 cal, I am really worried.

I really hope someone else has gone through this and willing to give some advice, I just feel like crawling into a hole and crying.

Oh dear - three sad faces! All in a row.

You are having a colonoscopy, which is a routine procedure these days, much like an x-ray. It does require anaesthesia and a somewhat invasive procedure, but the result is just as likely to be as benign as a chest x-ray.

Overall, worry is useless. The procedure itself is easy - the purge beforehand is less fun! And what is wrong with your bowels? They probably don't know either, so will tell you Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

The "they" in my above post refers to the doctors, not your bowels. In ninety plus per cent of these investigations the doctors find absolutely nothing, so they say it's Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

What time is your appointment tomorrow? you have got through these 8 weeks, albeit in a state of anxiety but you have got here, another 24 hours and you will have some answers. These answers are most likely to be good ones.

Between then and now there is nothing you can do to change tomorrow's outcome. So indulge the worry or indulge yourself in something else it doesn't matter, the hours will pass and you will be on the other side of this before you know it.

    Good luck.x

I see..I was wondering how you had been referred straight to colonoscopy my GP pretty much discounted it based on my age (37) so its good that they have at least referred you to a specialist to get that expert opinion.

It's so hard isn't it, because you want the test to prove everything is ok but if they say you they are sending you for it then it adds to the "evidence" that you must need it!

I managed a bowel screening cancer service for a short time (talk about having plenty of fuel for the HA bonfire to go at) and there were so many reasons for symptoms...benign polyps, inflammation, diverticulitis, IBS. floppy bowel (don't ask!!!)

I really hope you get some answers.x

Ive been to my GP so many times and i think he knows i would just keep coming back for the procedure. He said its the only way to get a definitive answer. Its nerve wrecking
