poem: New spiral annarchy riot
New spiral annarchy riot
We all had our formative years
As we worked through out musical gears
Nick Drake shone for too short a time
So did Jeff Buckley, Grace sublime
Spotty youths we were drawn to punk
Moshing as the Prog ship was sunk
A New Rose became our destination
Ramones were the first with the devestation
Following up was the Pistols annarchy
Then the Buzzcocks Spiral Scratch ep
Trinity completed with the Clash white riot
All the disenfranchised want to try it
The punk noise annoyed for a short time
More than four chords considered a crime
Garage bands gave us a new sound to rave
Our very own Elvis at the head of new wave
Record companies no longer glass fronted offices
Independant punks becoming record label novices
Beggars Banquet, Stiff, rough trade and Fiction
Another music in a different kitchen
Then there was our guru John Cooper Clarke
The thin black duke at the head of the art
Laconically, loquacious, lanky and Lancastrian
Wordsmith wizardry that showed that we can
From garage bands to garage poets now
We all could create something somehow
From punk to electronica, all a new game
We didnt want ten minutes of fame
We just need a pen or a guitar and the truth
The nearly dead need to listen to the youth …………
