ibuprofen overdose

Thought i would join here and ask some advice.
My 32 yr old boyfriend got absolutely steaming drunk on saturday night & ended up taking 48 of his grandmothers Ibuprofen tablets! They were 400mg dose too! I took him to a & e as soon as i knew which was about 5 hours later. They did his blood pressure & told him that was ok but that he would need to be admitted & monitored. Now he wasnt having any of that & left the hospital. Ive been petrified ever since even though he hasnt had any side effects except a sore tongue! How can someone take 48 pills & not suffer any problems? I keep asking him if hes sure that he took that many, but when i went to his nans i heard her telling him she found her empty packets & was worried! ( hardly surprising) He sorted that out but we took the empty packs out her house & there was 48 empty pill spaces from 2 boxes of 400mg?????? Does anyone know the possible side effects in the long term for doing this? I keep asking him to book a docs appointment so we can go and ask the doctor but he keeps saying dont worry he feels fine!?
Any advise would be gratefully recieved. We have looked on the net but they all say diff things & atleast one said long term problems are rare but??.....

I have to admit I don't know the implications of Ibuprofen overdose, but I seriously think you need to get him back to the Doctor's/A&E. If he won't go, I suggest you call your doctor/GP out-of-hours/NHS Direct and ask their advice as to what to look for.

It might also be a good idea to have a wee chat with him about why he decided to swallow 48 Ibuprofen tablets. I am suprised he, at the very least, doesn't have a mega tummy ache.

If he isn't ill by now then I doubt he has taken that many.

Are you sure he didn't just flush them down the loo and not take them?

I would question why he did this in the first place - does he has issues etc?
