    Nursing Home query

Hi, my mother has been in a Nursing Home for many years.
There have been many changes, not for the good.

The main issue is that very seriouly ill and violent people are being placed in these Homes.

Mum has beed assaulted, knocked to the ground, kicked and punched.
This is not the first time.
The Manager didn't even bother to call a Doctor, mum is 75 !!
Response to the assault has been luke warm.

Does anybody know of an authority I could report this to?

    Dave.

    Re: Nursing Home query

Sorry to hear of this. When my mum was in a nursing home, I got a phone call whenever she got a black eye, and I thought this was right and proper.

Try the Commission for Social Care Inspection

Hi mate, yep going to the Police is an option but the mentally ill person is arrested and goes to Court. Then it happens all over again with somebody else.
Meanwhile the placid ones end up battered and bruised in our so called "Care Homes"

    take care

    Re: Nursing Home query

    Hey Dave.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I can't abide cruelty to elderly people, whoever the culprit is.

I'd definitely go to Social Services, and also the police if you are concerned about sub-standard care. The staff should at least be keeping you informed, and being helpful and empathic in these places. Is it a private nursing home? If so I don't know who you should go to. Someone mentioned an Ombudsman? That sounds like a good course of action. Things tend to move fast when the word 'Ombudsman' is mentioned. I might also be tempted to let the manager know you will be seeking 'legal advice'. Don't use the word 'action' - yet. It ties you to nothing, but lets them know you are serious. Legal advice can be the Citizen's Advice Bureau, but let them think it's the lawyers. Maybe the CAB would be something to explore? It won't cost you anything and they can be a real help.

I do hope you get this sorted and your mum is getting along ok xx
