Dark flashes when moving eyes quickly in dark rolm

    Hey there,

I've just started noticing this in the last few nights after a late night on my computer. When I move my eyes quickly back and forth I notice a dull flicker, not bright at all, and it disappears after my eyes have got used to the dark (I think) I've tested when waking up in the middle of the night and it doesn't happen.

I notice it during the day if I make the room completely dark too. Is it something to do with a slight after image of bright light (screen or general daylight) rather than something like a retinal tear or detachment? I'm trying my best to be rational but 3 days in I'm starting to worry.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, the rational part of your post is the correct answer. The bit that sneaks in retinal tear is the wrong one. But if you ask me how do I know for sure, I don't. Only an optician would know for sure. However, logically speaking what you're seeing is probably your eyes adjusting from light to dark and vice versa.

Is there a reason you're moving your eyes quickly back and forth and self testing something that the vast majority of people don't even think about?

Thanks for your responses, I only started noticing it by accident and thought "this is new..." I'm just hoping it's nothing serious.

Briefly worried about this too about 9 years ago.

    Natural.

    Still alive.

Thank you! I feel much better about it now knowing you've been there and done that. I wish I never Googled anything in the last year otherwise I wouldn't have needlessly worried about retinal tears and detachments.

Did yours pass naturally or did you just ignore it and move on?
