CBT v ACT : Which is more effective for severe anxiety?

    Hello

This might only apply for those who have experienced both therapies, but from the reading I have done, ACT seems more appropriate.

I have done both and ACT is much better than CBT in my experience. Of course we are all different and different methods suit certain people better than others. ACT has taught me a totally different way of thinking. I am 4 weeks into a 6 week course and have found the methods easier to apply and by changing my thought patterns my anxiety has decreased. I would highly recommend reading 'The Happiness Trap' if you haven't already.

The Happiness Trap is a great book.

I think that ACT is far more appropriate for those with long standing disorders when a quick fix CBT course isn't going to be of much help or use.
