    Smile Globus Sufferers

Hello all! I have been a globus suffer since last year november when I suddenly had food poisoning and just threw up. The days following after I threw up I felt a lump sensation that was only alleviated when eating / drinking water. I spoke to my physician about this and the term was deemed globus. However, globus is just a term of feeling something in the throat when there really isn't. The main causes for globus is stress, anxiety, GERD, and cricopharyngeal spasm.

I first went to my PCP and she thought it was stress related so she just sent me back home. Few days later I went to see an ENT and he saw nothing down my throat aside from mucus. The feeling still persisted after I took medicine to remove the mucus from my throat and so I went back to my PCP and she gave me meds for Depression / Acid Reflux, both of which did nothing to me. She then referred me to an allergist and the allergist suspected it was either Vocal Cord Dysfunction or a cricopharyngeal spasm. Considering I went to the ENT and they saw nothing sinister and that I have no trouble speaking or breathing, Vocal Cord Dysfunction could be eliminated.

So at the start of February I saw my PCP after going through all these specialists to rule out anything serious, I brought up to her about cricopharyngeal spasm and she gave me a small testing dose of .25mg of a benzodiazepine. The moment I took one I could feel my throat lump disappear.

Sorry for such a long post, just wanted to reach out and give insight incase anyone else had similar symptoms to me as I had been suffering for 4 months and that there is a cure for everyone. If anyone has any questions I am more than glad to help.

    Hi there

Thanks for the great post - I was diagnosed with Globus last year after a few tests with my ENT doctor and anxiety definitely makes the condition worse plus I have LPR, however I have always had it since last year and never really got rid of it but when my anxiety is high the Globus intensifies!

Thanks for the post - I am sure it will help someone.
