Help - How can I stay away from home all night?

    Hi

Oh dear reality has just kicked in - we are going away this afternoon, only about 20 mins drive to a nice hotel, but the shakes have just started. I'm now dreading it.

I have not stayed away from home for quite some time, I do hope it will be ok for the childrens and hubby's sake.

Well thats it, any advice greatly received!!

Hi Lisa, just believe that you'll be fine. The anticipation is almost always worse than the event. WHat's the worst thing that can happen? If you can't cope you come home but that's unlikely to happen. Sometimes a change of scenery can be very helpful. Years ago when I was very ill, my hubby dragged me to Devon kicking and screaming and in spite of myself I had a great time. I was just afraid of being so far away from home and my comfort zone. Make sure you let us know what a nice time you've had when you get back.

Hi Lisa, I agree that the anticipatory anxiety is most likely making everything seem far worse than it is. Perhaps you can take a few things from home with you that will make you feel more 'at home' in your hotel room?

Like Jo says if push comes to shove you can actually just go home and just knowing that will often make a stay away from home easier to cope with.

Speaking from my own experience about 9yrs ago my partner and I were both selling our homes and buying a house together. At the last minute there was a hitch with the contracts and we ended up having to sell our houses without having a house to move into.

This situation lasted for 2wks and we had to face up to being totally homeless and ended up sleeping on the sofa bed of someone I didn't even know for the whole 2wks. I amazed myself at how I managed to actually cope, but when it came to it for some strange reason it all seemed remarkably easy to deal with.

I do hope that you have a nice time and come back and tell us how much fun you had there.

Panic attacks started in 1992. 1998 i became agoraphobic which lead into being room bound. Couldn't even get upstairs. 2002 i started getting better, able to drive and work. 2005 i became house bound again. 2009 i have been making SLOW progress, still not able to go anywhere alone, but my journeys are getting longer. No where near 'normal' but at least i can go out.
