Thread: Really fast heartrate

    Really fast heartrate

So I took my heartbeat for fun using my smartphone yesterday while sitting on the couch and it was 193 bpm, I couldnt believe it, so I lifted my finger right away and took it again and it was 91. Now I'm trying to figure out was a false positive or should I look into it more. Mind you I take my pulse all the time due to my health anxiety and normally I'm at 68-72 resting, 80 and up when i have anxiety. I'm trying to tell myself that it is and that I took it so briefly. I had no symptoms and I felt fine until later when I got home and started thinking about it and got anxiety over it.

You just lost count. It's extremely unlikely it was that high. Try to break that self-checking habit. It just feeds the dragon.

That just affirms my point. Delete the app and stop feeding your dragon!

Dude... (cyber slap here) it's a phone app... it glitched! There's no way your HR was that high!

Smartphone HR apps often give you false double readings before they settle down due to the way they measure your HR.

Double readings? You mean double the actual HR rate?

    Yes.

The app measure your bloodflow with the camera using the light to shine through your skin. It tries to 'see' the blood through the skin of the finger and is generally fairly accurate, but it can also interpret the in and out flow of the heart as two readings and therefore two heartbeats.

I read it on a health forum.
