    Bumps on roof of mouth

    Hi,
Five weeks ago I got a small bump, about 3 mm long, on the hard part of the roof of my mouth. It keeps getting bigger and smaller all the time, even during the period of one day. Eating food normally makes it bigger. But sometimes when I'm eating food it seems to burst and it goes completely flat. When it goes flat it takes from between 24-48 hours before the bump starts to become noticeable again.

Yesterday a new bump developed about 5-10 mm away from the original one. It also got bigger after eating. Anyone know what they might be? Might it be cancer? Will book an appointment with the doctor next week.

Looking on the net they seem to be mucoceles.

I have an idea about what might have caused the 2nd mucocele.

I had read that applying alum might be beneficial in getting rid of mucoceles, so I bought some and applied Saturday. Dabbed my thumb in the alum and held it to the mucocele or whatever it is. Did this every 3 hours holding my thumb in place for 10 mins at a time.

But, I'm not sure this might not have irritated the whole of the roof of my mouth. On a couple of occasions during that day the roof of my mouth to the side of the cyst seemed to swell up a bit a couple of times, but then went down after 5 mins. Can't recollect if this occurred shortly after applying the alum or not.

But I'm just wondering if this alum might have somehow precipitated the 2nd cyst/mucocele or whatever it is?

Oh wow, this was almost 9 years ago! It lasted a fair few weeks. Whenever I ate food it got bigger, well.. most foods I ate anyway. It remained the same size after eating something like porridge. I think it was foods that made me salivate that made it grow bigger. If you have the same it's nothing to worry about. I reckon it was a mucocele.

Thank you so much for replying! Yes mine gets firmer with food and then it gets softer and smaller over night or when I'm not eating. It's been since mid Dec now and im worried sick. I'm going to the dentist in a few weeks and my anxiety is through the roof. So yours went away completely? I think I caused it by scraping the roof if my mouth with a tortilla chip but not sure anymore.

It seems clear that you have what I had, most probably a mucocele. However, I never did go to either the doctor or dentist. Yes it went away completely just by itself. I talked about it on Facebook at the time. I first mentioned it on the 5th June 2017 on there. Then on the 20th July 2017 I said:

"My mucocele on roof of mouth has disappeared now. It kept continually inflating and deflating every 2-3 days for around 8 weeks before disappearing altogether. Inflated when I ate food. Thought it might have been mouth cancer."

I do tend to worry about my health! I also said in another post that I think it lasted something like 9 or 10 weeks altogether.

I have terrible health anxiety too and always fear that whatever comes up is cancer.
Thank you so much, I will give it a bit more time. You have helped ease my anxiety a bit! Thanks
