Smile Long term use of Beta Blockers

Hi, has anyone been taking beta blockers for a fair few years? I've been taking Propranolol for about 7 years now, i was prescribed them for anxiety after having my first attack and have just been taking them ever since. This week I have cut out one of the tablets (I was taking 3 x 40mg/day) and for the first 4 days felt absolutely no difference but over the last few days have experienced a more rapid heartbeat. I only get very mild bouts of anxiety now, (mainly through stress) and would like to come eventually come off the beta blockers altogether. Has anyone been in the same boat? and is it safe to take these long term. Thanks FLOYD

    Hi Floyd

My doctor perscribed beta-blockers to me this week. I have only taken too and the second one made me feel awful - really fatigued and sick - I have stopped them now. I am not not a really bad panic sufferer and feel I am best tryng to sort out the underlying causes of anxiety rather than use medication to suppress the symptoms. I think GPs are too quick to hand out pills.

Been on them a few years now, very safe to take long term according to my doctor so i wouldn't worry, people with ET (Essential Tremor) are on them for life usually.
