Diazepam and alcohol

I have taken a 5mg diazepam this morning, 10am, and am contemplating a few drinks tonight, is this a bad idea??

It probably won't be a problem, but it does depend on what you mean by "a few drinks". A couple of beers shouldn't be an issue, but getting hammered could be. The danger is that both alcohol and benzodiazepines (BZDs) depress brainstem activity and the breathing reflex is produced there. BZDs plus lots of alcohol can, and has, resulted in asphyxiation during sleep.
