You're hyper-focusing. If you look at most any monotone surface and hyper-focus on it, you will notice normal visual anomalies that the majority of the population tunes out. It's like hearing your heartbeat in your ears or notice you're breathing really loud when you go to bed etc. If you focus on these normal physical aspects, they become amplified.

At least some of the sparkling you're noticing are white blood cells. It blew my mind when someone told me this.
