I will try and be positive and say I use to suffer daily anxiety and panic for years now it’s mostly ocd and I don’t get anxiety. If I can beat the anxiety surely ocd being anxiety related can be beaten despite people having different opinions on how. It can be done surely?

No-one has said it can't be done. Everyone has said it can be beaten, but only with hard work on your part. How do you think you can beat it? How did you get over your panic attacks?

I used some self help. But I suffered anxiety for days up until a few months ago I started beta blockers again so I was more chilled. Problem is I’ve not found a solution for my ocd yet there’s various tactics self help books more Cbt forums lots of ideas but I’ve not found something that works for me. The ocd keeps getting worse but generally it’s mostly the same subjects just different scenarios?

So you think just thinking positively will get rid of your OCD?

Have you really tried though? I mean really worked on therapy exercises? I get the impression you haven't, and as so many people have said, therapy won't help unless you're prepared to work at it.

I don't think the different scenarios are important. It's all the same themes. Even themes probably aren't important, it's how you react to them (compulsions) that keeps them going.

^ This. Yes, you have tried some exposure to things like the bin but that's not the same as following a form of therapy which is less concerned with the bin and more with what lies underneath why you are doing things.

You did stop yourself with the shower issue when you thought your bum was dirty. But this issue is just a petal on the Vicious Flower, something you should have a look at.

Anxiety Disorders are a grouping, one sub group is OCD. I'm not sure what you mean by beating anxiety when you haven't beaten your OCD. Was your anxiety more general in nature? If so then it's great you have beaten that and doesn't that show you anything is possible because I bet you didn't think you could beat that either?

Phil there were links to free resources in your area posted ages ago, and if I remember correctly some were to places that specialised in OCD.

Should you go back to the same therapist? I don't know. I cannot recall you telling us much of what techniques she was trying to get you to use.

There is help out there, you really need to take the initiative and find it.

As everyone has said, therapy will only teach you coping strategies, it is then up to you to put them into practice every day.

To be honest I think you should see the new psychiatrist first for a proper assessment.
