    Racing heart on Citalopram

I’m on 10mg of Citalopram, taken my third tablet tonight and every time without fail my heart races and I feel sick and hot flashes shortly after taking it. I’ve been on this drug before a few years ago and I don’t remember having a racing heart as a side effect. It’s scaring me but I really need to get on some medication due to my anxiety being terrible but I’m worried about my heart

I had the same issue with this med. It took a few weeks for it to go away. Unfortunately, it did nothing for me, so switched over to Lexepro, which is also doing nothing for me. Did they give you a Xanax or anything to help with the added anxiety?

Ugh, i remember this feeling all too well. Those are actually panic/anxiety attacks. I am currently on week 4 of citalopram, and i had that happen to me the first week but then it subsided.
My chest would get warm, heart would start to race and I would sweat. Really freaked me out. Believe it or not from what i read this is common. I have GAD but have never had a full blown panic attack before. This happened to me once at work and I needed to leave. But like i said, that has now passed.
It can def be really scary, but if you are still really worried contact your doctor.

It takes some time for the meds to affect you - it won't be a medical effect. Considering how soon after you react, it's a psychological effect - it's a rush of anxiety.
