Thread: Question about chewing and choking.

  1. #1

    Question about chewing and choking.

I know that eating very large pieces of food can get stuck in the esophagus or the windpipe so eating smaller pieces of food which are chewed properly is recommended. But I don’t get why chewing smaller pieces of food prevents choking via the windpipe? It’s not like the epiglottis doesn’t work if you don’t chew your food right?

I know it sounds like a silly question but it’s just something that came to my mind after having a weird experience where I was eating and felt my throat closing up!
