Lexapro/Cipralex just about saved my life. It certainly made me functioal again.

Totally agree with Phill, Escitalopram is where it's at for me. It's true that different meds work better for different folks but another important factor that will affect this poll is how often the drugs are prescribed - the cheaper drugs are prescribed more and so more people will be helped by them, for example Citalopram vs Escitalopram.

Depends how bad your symptoms are, anxiety is obviously that bit easier to treat than panic attacks.

If you look around at the sites where people rate meds then benzos always come out top, but getting them in the UK is a lot easier said than done. They tend to work for practically everyone whereas SSRI/SRNI's don't.

Citalopram was good for me for a quite a time but then decided to quit working.

I have tried various antidepressants and none of them worked for me.
I have been on trifluoperazine(anti psycotic) for 10 months and it has completly changed my life.

When I suffered from depression, I was put on SSRI's, but they just made me feel worse. The medication that worked for me was Clomipramine. It's an old antidepressant, with some side effects, but with over 30 years of use on millions of people, it as proven itself to work. It does take several months to be effective, so don't expect an overnight cure.

I voted Lorazepam which I think has helped me most in 'extreme' circumstances. I've taken much more Citalopram though, so would vote for that too if I had 2 votes

Seroxat (Paxil) for me too. It has been great for me. Don't know what I would have done without it. Just had my ten year anniversary on it. Whoooah. I moved onto the new version Paxil CR when I moved to the US. Don't know if it is available in the UK. I much prefer it as I don't get the terrible heart burn I used to get on the old stuff.

Not sure if or how I ever come off it though. My doctor tried reducing my dose a few years back and I had a hell of a time. Pretty much suffered from a constant panic attack until he decided to put my dose back up again!

in the early days i was prescribed clomipramine and it was a life saver at that time . i have taken seroxat on and off for the past 17yrs which also was a life saver. i am currently on trazadone which is ok but not as effective as seroxat

I am on all sorts but ciprimil and valium (diazepam) has helped me the most but on saying that!!!!
