Effexor did work for me.. I just decided that after 2 years it was time to remove the crutch and deal with life on my own.. best decision I ever made.

Citalopram will come out top as it’s the most commonly used AD (it’s the cheapest so it’s the first one docs prescribe). I’ve tried various AD’s with no benefit; citalopram had the least side effects though. Therapy was far more beneficial for me than meds.

OK, mine isn't listed here-I now take Cymbalta/duloxetine which has helped me greatly. One word of caution though, remember that different pills do different things to diff people, so what helps one may not help another. This means that whichever drug receives the largest number of votes on this poll isn't necessarily the most effective and may not be suitable for you.

so it took several months for to see benefits from anafranil .How did you find it for the first few months and what dosage where you on? I used seroxat years ago which worked to rid me of depression and obsessions but this time round totally flipped me out after 3 days so have been worried about taking new med .i have taken 4 x 10mg of clomipramine and so far and the only side effect i have had is a dry mouth.So if i was going to have adverse effects i would have done so by now .So do you think i should ask docter about upping my dose or should i wait a few weeks on this dose then ask him. Do the side effects get more the higher the dose? Sorry about all the questions and look foward to your reply.
