QT prolongation

Hi All*
I'm scared so bad right now!*
I didn't even know this existed, I've been on citalopram before with no problems I had missing heart beats but always put that down to the anxiety though it did get worse at first with citalopram.*
This time on it I have the occasional light headed spell especially when walking around of from getting up, and I can feel my heart is missing the odd beat as I check it!!*
I had an ECG done nearly 2 weeks ago all was fine but I'm worried sick! I'm on 30mg a day of citalopram 20mg in morning and 10mg at night and 30mg 3×10mg of Propranol.
Any advice would be great!
Should i be worried and wide awake.*
I should add I had an echocardiogram done about 8 years ago and all was fine.*

Hi,

So let’s look at the facts you have had 2 ecg - those were fine. You had skipping heartbeats before your meds and that was mainly anxiety related? You are on 1 med that can possibly cause QT prolongation and you are on propranolol which is used for various heart related issues as well as anxiety related....

I would say your anxiety is playing up and you that is more likely the reason.

I have been on loads of med combination which have had QT as a side issues and never happened.

Maybe your citalopram dose needs increasing to control your anxiety?

I was worked up by a specialist for this because a good amount of my EKGS showed borderline prolonged QT. My insurance wouldnt cover the genetic testing and I couldn't afford it but I did have an EP study with hopes for ablation for SVT and my QT interval remained normal the entire time.. In the end I was a given a list of medications to stay away from but told I likely didn't have it.. I worried about it for a long time but now not so much. I see a cardio once a year for my other arrhythmia's and so far so good...

This condition is genetic and if you dont have a history or a family history of fainting or sudden death, I wouldn't worry about. My choices for antibiotics are very limited due to allergies and I have taken 2 antibiotics that are on the no no list I was given years ago because I really had no choice and I had no ill effects. Those medications are only really a concern in people who already have prolonged QT syndrome and since your EKG was normal there is no concern.

I want to add that like you, I also have premature beats... My last holter showed 12,009 PVCS in 24 hours but in a structurally normal heart they are only a nuisance. So try not to worry about those either The more you worry over them, the more you tend to feel them.
