    Citalopram to Sertraline (no taper)

Just wondered if any one had done this swap

I have been on 40mg of citalopram for quite a while now and now suffering badly from anxiety again.

The dr suggested that I swap from Citalopram to Sertraline...... straight swap, no taper from the Citalopram

the 40mg of Citalopram to a high dose of sertraline as "there isnt much point in being on a higher dose of Citalopram and going to a lower dose of Sertraline"

I have been told that it should be fine and I shouldn't have many side effects as the Citalopram and Sertraline are 'sister drugs' not sure what that means, I am presuming it means they are similar

The citalopram should be out of my system in 2 weeks and the Sertraline should be into my system in 2 weeks.

I am a bit skeptical though has anyone done this before??

    bump

today is day 3, not sure how I feel to be honest.... I wake up with a headache daily. and mmy Depersonalisation seems worse but that could just be because I am petrified of going on to 100mg and no tapering... so I am doing it to myself.

I have had huge anxiety each day until I take the tablet (I have been taking it with a diazapam) and then afterwards it calms down a bit until I feel OK...

so I took my dose earlier yesterday around 7 and today I will take it earlier at about 1pm.....then earlier still.... i am hoping that taking it eearlier n the day will mean less anticipatory anxelty during the day.

3rd dose taken now along with a diazapam.... I need to pop out later so hopefully that will take my mind off things

    Hi Venus,

I did a straight swap from Citalopram to Sertraline, having reached the max dose of 40mg and it not working. It properly pooped out on me. I was started on 50mg sertraline and ended up at 150mg. Because I was so bad at the time citalopram was stopped, the GP said from her experience that there was little point in a taper down and I agreed.

I am now in week 5ish onto sertraline....

To be honest in the end the swap went pretty smooth... I was expecting to be full of side effects from the coming off the cit and going on to the sert, but to be honest that never happened at all

so good news about my swap in the end
