    C-reactive protein

    Hi guys and gals,

Hopefully someone out there with a wealth of knowledge to help or relate to.

    So here goes..

January of this year, I was admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitis. The hospital did nothing for me bar take blood tests each day and after three days I was released. On the first day of admission, my CRP was high (I don't know how high as I wasn't told) but this lead them to believe it was appendicitis.

Day 2, my symptoms improved by my CRP on this blood test was 120 (or 160 cant recall which but still really high). This warranted them to keep me in to see if this climbed further.

Day 3 (day of discharge) my CRP had lowered to 57 and symptoms completely gone so I was discharged with either food poisoning or a "grumbling appendix" but no diagnosis.

As this was not diagnosed, it caused me great deal of stress so I went to docs / A&E for repeated tests, each one with a CRP in region of 20. Each time I went, the abdominal pain was the reason I went so this was my main sympton.

I then got seen by a Consultant Dr specialising on Stomach / Colon. He said that my CRP on every blood test has been high, coupled with abdominal pain, he has ordered a CT scan. This is causing quite a bit of anxiety as you can imagine as I fear bowel cancer.

I am 35 and my sole symptom is abdominal pain which is either mild to sharp and predominately worse after eating. I have no blood in bowels and no weight loss. I do however have decreased appetite but I feel this is more stress due to CT scan related.

SO now to the actual question - does anyone else have high CRP / know anything about CRP levels which could offer some reassurance. Dr kinda laughed the whole bowel cancer off as I am only 35, not overweight, never smoked etc

    Thank you

    Re: C-reactive protein

I would guess the doctor is more thinking along the lines of inflammatory bowel disease or something rather than cancer. If it was cancer your CRP wouldn’t have come down.
