    Can meds help with DP?

I'm finding the DePersonalisation and Unrealness really hard to deal with this time.
Did any of you find that the DP went while you were on meds?
I'm not sure if i should go to my GP for something to help get rid of it.
I hate feeling like i'm existing on autopilot, i don't want to spend the rest of my life feeling like i'm faking it.

    Thanks

    Hello Aussie !

There are numerous meds which can help - the question is do you want to take them ? DP is a symptom of the way you feel right now, when your body learns to relax and becomes more balanced this feeling will go.

    Hi Aussie

The meds i took Citalopram used to ease the symptoms but didnt exclude them all togeather, i found breathing exercises and distraction used to help, theres some good tips on the How to Cope section on the left hand side of this page im sure will be of interest too.

    love

Meds didn't help me with it at all.

Exercise and correct breathing did however so you could try that.

Thanks for your answers, i just feel scared that it might not go away this time and i'll feel like this forever.
I really hate it. Going to the gym this morning, so hopefully that will help.

    Thanks again

I went through a period of depersonalization a few years ago. How I overcome it was by shifting my conscious thoughts onto demanding tasks. Of course writing about it now brings back the sensation, but because it no longer bothers me, I don't keep consciously focusing on it.

That's the problem with these anxiety things - they only bother us because we are frightened of them. Take away the fear and they have no reason to exist.

    Thanks Tom,
That's how i got rid of it the last time, i just started to accept it for what it was and it went away.
This time it seems to be bothering me so much more. Even when i am distracted i still feel odd.
I guess it just has to run it's course.
I can't seem to shake the feeling that this time is different and it might not go away.
