World Suicide Prevention Day 10th Sept

    Hi all,

I hope you are all well

It was World Suicide Prevention Day today (10th Sept) so thought it worthwhile to place this on here as so many have been touched by this in their loved ones or have been to these extremes themselves:

Admin have a thread full of links which can be seen here for UK members:

    For US members:

Apologies to anyone outside of these regions as there don't appear to be threads about the resources but I hope you have easy access to find them.

    Please don't suffer in silence.

    Thanks for that, Tony.

No, there is nothing triggering in there. There isn't the kind of detail into the actual thoughts themselves and what you may have seen in your mind that some people go into which can be triggering for some people.

Like you say on it's hard to know what this stuff feels like until you see it yourself. It's not the depressed feelings/thoughts you feel before mental health issues, it's greatly magnified alone but also it branches off into things you wouldn't think about otherwise.

It's good that you have your family there to support you through the peaks & troughs of it.

Something I have struggled really with is inertia. You mention how depression not only puts you in bed but reinforces how pointless it is to try to get out. You spend your days lying there happily waving good bye to days of your life just so it is done for another day and then it all starts again. It's a demoralising cycle of lacking motivation.

Whilst in my anxiety avoidance has been a big problem I also get this inertia issue. It's very hard to conquer and a matter of constant willpower, not that I'm any winner of that battle.

Re: World Suicide Prevention Day 10th Sept

Just wanted to add this in here to show that the government have accepted that something is needed in suicide prevention as campaigned for:

The financial cost is shocking but pales in comparison to the true cost to the human beings involved.

I would like to know who has weighed that cost against the cost of treatment and whether it came out less than the financial aftermath? If it does it only encourages prevention in any government whether they want to control the purse strings or improve social conditions for us.

Surely they can see that for each person who ultimately takes this road the NHS inherit more people who have been affected by it?
Just wanted to update this to say it reached 393,116 and Theresa May has agreed to appoint a minister responsible for suicide prevention in Ms Doyle-Price.
