Diarrhea and normal stools in the same day

I often have a normal BM in the morning. Some days, that’s it. Other days, I’ll have the normal one and it’s followed by looser or more diarrhea like stools. Is this normal? I started taking a probiotic last week to try and regulate things. Do I have IBS? I had this last year as well, more of the diarrhea side. They did an abdominal ultrasound and said it was normal. Should I go for more tests? One good thing is that I have never seen blood in my stool, a,lthough my backside does get a bit sore at times. I feel like I’m starting to spiral about this and I’m really not looking forward to it.

Things like IBS aren’t easy to diagnose as there are no set tests for them. My girlfriend thinks she has IBS and so does her doctor, she has similar symptoms to you.

This is certainly not something you need to spiral over. Do you keep a good diary? Might be worth noting down what you eat and when you have irregular stools. Sometimes it’s triggered by certain foods

This is really very typical of IBS - a type 4 stool followed by anything up to type 7. The bowel is just a tube. Think of it this way - the hard stuff has to get out of the way so the soft stuff can move through.

Although, when you have something like norovirus, that soft stuff will push it's way out.
