Irrational pgobia of death

It just hit me out of nowhere and its driving me crazy. I have an almost gut feeling I will die, I am afraid to go to sleep in case I die in my sleep.

Thantophobia - thats the name for it - and its quite a common one.

Thantophobia is the fear of death or dying. The origin come from the Greek work thanato (meaning death) and phobia is Greek (meaning fear). Thantophobia is considered to be a specific phobia, which is discussed on the home page. Thantophobia is also known as Thanatophobia.

A psychi once told me, about 3 decades ago, that he thought health anxiety was rooted in this as the original cause- As if HA is a symptom of Thantophobia. Not sure if this still stands as a premise, as MUCH has changed in 3 decades lol


Many people fear death and dying, lets be honest. As most human beings have an overwhelming survivial instinct, this is their nemesis. I don't know if you've had or are having therapy, but you should be able to get some good help on this phobia....as its well documented and understood.
