Help please! Is this ibs or more?

So I posted recently about my husband battling something w his tummy. He has been dealing with extreme bloating, and louuud burping a bit of diarrhea and pain. He saw the gi who thinks he just has a post viral ibs but of course I’m worried. Every time he eats he bloats up and expands. It’s as if he has a bunch of poop trapped or hopefully not something worse blocking his colon. Thing is.. once this week he was farting up a storm and felt sooo much better but he’s not typically able to do that lately. Has anyone had this experience? Is he blocked up?? What can I do to help. He’s lost like ten pounds. :( I’m so scared.

    Hey again Goldie !

Let me tell you now, and this is no lie, I was really ill with a stomach bug when I was 23 years old. I contracted amoebic dysentry abroad, which gave me terrible bowel problems for a few weeks, and I had a stool sample done also. I had a second stool sample when it didn't resolve, by which point it was showing 'clear'. It was the start of my IBS, from that point onwards! He has seen a specialist, they have checked him out. Start reading up on IBS, that'd be a good way forwards. Bland foods, cover all nutrition aspects, but keep fat and sugar low and decent fibre amounts. Take a pro-biotic. Hope this helps.

Hi Carys. Thanks again for your kind response. I’ve been doing a lot of reading on ibs in frantic hope of helping my poor babes pain! I hate seeing him so miserable. Today we got out and I got ingredients to make a stew I found to help constipation with all vegetables. He also had a smoothie and has found some relief in pooping again. Fingers crossed that things are starting to clear up. Doctor has him on a good probiotic too and prescribed an ibs pill which I believe is peppermint oil? Have you tried medications for ibs?

It really hasn't been that long yet Goldie, it really can take many weeks to get over a nasty bowel infection.

You’re probably right. I’m feeling so defeated right now. He was doing fine yesterday eating plain chicken applesauce and a smoothie all day. Today he had a chicken salad from Panera. Thinking he’d be better and he’s having the symptoms all over again (stomach expanding quickly and tons of pain). I wish I could pinpoint it to gluten or something but the salad he had was apparently gluten free.

I’m panicking again. He is in so much pain. He deviated from the boring chicken and fruit and ate that damn Panera salad. He’s now cramping like “traditional stomach pain” and wants to vomit and had a bit of diarrhea. I dunno how much more of this I can handle. I also have emetophobia so this is all super triggering to me. Two weeks ago I caught the first bug I’ve had in like a decade and vomited which is nuts considering I’ve been through a pregnancy and delivery since then. I’m hardly eating because I’m so scared that I’ll get something again from him. I can’t relax. Just feeling very very overwhelmed right now. :(

Sitting at work and I want to cry. The doctor recommended an endoscopy for my husband since his eosinophils are high (wbc??). They’re are 25! His doctor did a CBC and said his results looks normal a few weeks ago. I’m so scared. Can this just be from a simple infection?

Hiyer Goldie.......look remember (and I had to look up eosinophils)...the primary reason for this is 'fighting infections' most commonly a 'parasitic infection'. Cancer and other serious bowel matters ( if thats what you are thinking of?!) don't come on over night, and suddenly after eating some contaminated food. Your husband has a 'cause and effect' here. This was why I was asking earlier if they had checked for parasites along with bacteria, as it seemed possible as a cause. Stop panicking, so he needs to be checked, he is being checked so they can make him well again. The checking/endoscopy isn't the threat, whatever originally made him ill is the threat.

Would the stool samples have covered the parasitic infection? They checked for parasites and it was negative. All his stools came back fine. I wish they simply found something within those. I think that’s why this is freaking me out. I am trying to be rational but it’s so hard. He gets so sick when he eats most things. The only things he eats that are “safe” are chicken and fruit and veggies. And smoothies he says feel so good and coat his stomach.
