What happened at your first GP appointment about anxiety

So when you first addressed your problem and spoke to your GP what happened? Were you given medication? Were you sent for cbt? Did they give you a series of tests?

I was offered anti-depressants and given a piece of paper referring me to NHS therapists with a year long waiting list.
I had no examination, no tests and no information about anxiety in any form.

Well now...this is going back years but I was given Diazepan, which I didnt take but that literally was it. I suspect they are a little more informed nowadays but I don't go and mostly cope by myself.

Doc was more interested in an ulcer on my elbow i mentioned after explaining my anxiety for 5.mins. no referral for councelling just a phone no for low level telephone help which I already had. No advice about the anxiety.

Sounds like no matter what country you are in, the bottom line is that GPs are not well equipped to treat anxiety.
