    Sleep study experiences

My parents were both big snorers, and I suspect I may snore pretty bad myself. I'm not sure since I live alone. At least twice, though, I've snored loud enough to wake myself up! There have been times recently when I've been half asleep that I've felt like I was holding my breath and then finally exhaled with sort of a "pop" from my soft palette, and last night I woke up feeling like I'd been holding my breath again, or being smothered. It was a terrible feeling. That was the last straw, so I talked to my GP and he wants me to have a sleep study.

Our local sleep center has a patient information page online about sleep studies, but I was curious if anyone has a first hand account. What was it really like? Any tips?

I use an app called SnoreLab on my phone. It records you sleeping all night, and you can check for sleep apnoea. It also helps because you can tell from the sound of your breathing/snoring just how much sleep you really got. It’s usually more than you think.
    It’s free by the way.
