But it's just politics. They like to sling mud. You are totally right to say focus on now and the future but politics seems as much about sticking it to each other. No workplace would operate like the Commons does. Nothing would ever get done.

Boris was inflaming the nations. He was wrong. Just as Raynor was doing the same not long ago with her sum remarks. Grow up the lot of you!
Since how was Starmer responsible for not doing anything about Corbyn and the anti-Semitism stuff, as he (Starmer) wasn't Labour leader at the time?

Similar to how was Major responsible for whatever Thatcher did wrong during her tenure in Number 10?

It does seem like they keep going round in circles in the Commons with the endless whataboutery, whatiffery and mudslinging.

He sat next to him and supported him rather than stand up against the abuse. You don't have to be leader to take a stand. If you stand next to your colleague doing this you become complicit. Some MPs did and they got forced out whilst Starmer enjoyed the front bench.

He could have resigned over it. He could have raised issues. He focussed on his own remit. That's looking the other way, the very thing Corbyn has been accused of rather than making a stand against those abusing Jewish members and MPs.

That's not a good look. Rebuilding trust with a community isn't easy when they remember how you didn't want to know in recent memory.

I agree. I've just been chatting with Lexie our black lab, and she's really quite upset that cats seem to get all the publicity. She suggested the West Ham player/cat kicking is a hoax designed to raise the profile of cat welfare and 'alleged persecution', her words.

She also implied the footballer in question scored a 'Cat-trick' during the game. Again, her words.

What I find most ironic ATM is that Boris is currently talking tough on Russia over the Ukraine crisis, whilst at the same time he can't get to grips with a lot of the issues within his own country.

Yesterday, also just as ironically, the UK's terror threat was downgraded from severe to substantial, as I already mentioned upthread earlier today, though so far (touch wood) there's been no talk of any specific threat directly posed to the UK owing to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

For the record, former PM Sir John Major did an interesting talk earlier today. While he did have his respective faults and issues during his tenure in Number 10, time has since been kinder to him and he was (and still is) most certainly a far cry from our current loser of a PM!

The trade association was once upon a time connected to slavery. Like pretty much everything everywhere in the world was. But there are concerns being raised about their connections throughout local society. They defended the Colston statue so they would be a target. Colston was a member of their association.

As Pain demonstrates, we wouldn't be able to buy anything unconnected. We can't change our roots.
Exactly Terry. I struggle to get to grips with this current obsession with trying to rewrite our history.

Should places like historical sites, stately homes, museums, art galleries, public libraries, etc, be closed down and outlawed for the sake of certain factions of our society being triggered and offended by less desirable aspects of our heritage?

Can't see Party-gate being the reason. She stayed through far worse. The Met is getting another kicking over treatment of women and that's far worse than a hesitant investigation (Not exactly new when it comes to politics).

People have been calling for her head for years and she was supported. It might have been the final straw and Khan can't defend her anymore?

The terror threat won't be related to potential war would it?

Yes, Major seems to be doing a Blair and carving a new career out of opinion pieces. He made a fool of himself over Brexit though with his "tyranny of the majority" nonsense and hypocritical stances. Brown tends to pop up more over Scottish issues, Cameron is busy raking it in and May is looking bizarre banging on about our reputation when she made us look so weak (lecturing us over our international reputation when the world watched her round up black people who've lived here most of their lives).

Whilst I don't intend to tar all persons of Russian origin with the same brush, there's obviously a few living and/or working in this country, just like certain Jihadist factions who turned over central London in July 2005, whose attacks were speculated to have been fuelled partly by the Iraq war.

Also, remember the Salisbury poisoning incident only 4 years ago in March 2018, which I suppose was technically a terror-related incident, though not explicitly referred to as one at the time.

While I also don't intend to sound like a paranoid doom merchant, I do believe in this particular context that the govt were a bit premature in downgrading the terror threat level the other day.

All seems like the govt are trying to make out nothing's wrong right now in order to reverse their flagging opinion poll ratings, plus they now also seem to be playing down the threat of Covid.

Seems like many floodgates are opening at once of late, many of which pertaining to longstanding issues and scandals that were previously brushed under the carpet by many. Not just with this latest Met issue, but with many others in general, especially politics-related ones.

Even many members of the general public who were previously blasé about a lot of those issues/scandals and shrugged them off as trivial now seem to be unburying their heads from the sand at long last!

The scandals are being mentioned in the media. So much is about the poor attitudes of some officers towards women, lack of professional standards, criminal acts, etc. All this WhatsApp crap makes me think there is a culture of it and management doing nothing.

I was surprised escalating knife crime didn't get a mention.
