I don't know whether it's just me but I seem to recall people being more outraged about the last recession back in 2008-09 than this one so far, with many people inadvertently refusing point blank to ever vote Labour again, whose aversion still lasted into about 2021 or so when the Tories were still winning by-elections in areas like Hartlepool and others.
It's also most ironic and indeed hypocritical that the Tories have failed to prevent this slump from occurring under their watch, in spite of repeatedly having digs at the late New Labour over the last one (which was caused by global circumstances largely beyond the UK's immediate control) and constantly barking out 'Broken Britain' at the same time.
Mind you, for better or worse, it demonstrates how fickle politics can be.
Ditto for all Tory election victories (chiefly in England) since 2010.
Both those and Brexit IMO were largely sold on our morbid obsessions with nostalgia and perceptions that nearly everything was far better in the past (which many things weren't actually) and 'Broken Britain' in particular has inadvertently become a self-fulfilling prophecy in many ways.
I question how it took ages of negotiation to come up with a partial solution yet wonder Rishi comes along and it's sorted in a week. Does that sound feasible? All of a sudden we are led to believe the EU, famous for endless rounds of negotiation, have just waved something through.
I've not read it since the initial reports but found myself wondering why a 2 lane solution is any different other than allowing companies to take over responsibility, something which they were already told to do.
I wonder if for the sake of closure it has been watered down? If so he might have worsened his re election chances.

That would be a difficult sell since many voters are too young to understand pre EEC let alone the days of empire.
Whilst I think some felt this way I think this is oversold by a biased section of the media looking to play the other side as flag waving thicko empire types.
Many of today's problems have no connection to those days. The reported big issues were things like immigration, loss of sovereignty, etc.

Good to hear from you, Terry. I hope that things aren't too hard at home..

At this rate, Chuck and his wannabe Queen will end up with tribute acts..
Those pair actually asked Elton John though? As in, a massive mate of Diana's who re-wrote the words to one of his best loved songs for her funeral.
Can't help but think it was Cam the Sham's idea...
A thought is harmless unless we believe it.
