Downing Street said on Wednesday the "disappointing and disproportionate" threat of sanctions was "not what we would expect from a close ally and partner".

But history informs us it’s exactly what we should expect from the French….

Yes indeed. It’s that game we’ve been playing with France, on and off, for about 1000 years. Where’s that peace of cod that passeth all understanding?...

Should have gone fishing in a dinghy, the French seem to find it impossible to impound those...

Not entirely sure why someone would want to do that.

Sounds so arbitrary and random to me, especially when there's far more serious things Plod should be dealing with right now.

Not necessarily condoning speedsters though, but it's more the randomness of this whole thing I find a bit perplexing.

Plus I thought speed cameras on roads were largely intended to help reduce the burden on the police, to enable them to tend to far more serious cases in person, whereas the speedsters generally receive a letter through the post, usually telling them they have to pay a fine.

Wouldn't that be a failure to identify case as the camera needs to snap your face to prove it's you? So did they make him drop his trousers to compare to the photo?

I suppose being snapped with your bum out for the camera might mean you don't have both hands on the wheel at the time? What a 'cheek'

I think there should have at least been some fitting epitaph:

    Here lies Elizabeth Lingard
    She found her fortune
    Then died

Perhaps, like me, those charitable folks couldn’t think of anything meaningful to rhyme with Lingard (but mine is an example of assonance or “getting the rhyme wrong”)
A very random (and oddball) news story, or to be more precise, a bit of a non-story!

Whilst I agree that that guy baring his bum at a speed camera was a very silly thing to do, and indeed asking for trouble, I did think it was a bit of a trivial and petty misdemeanour to warrant 6 plods going in heavy-handed, which really takes the mickey when coppers elsewhere are struggling to deal with far more serious crimes, e.g, knife crime, gangs, paedos, etc.
