Is this a panic attack?

I had severe worry about not being able to contact my son who is abroad. This morning I had a call to say he's been in an accident but will be fine thank goodness and home in a couple of days. I was holding it together and carrying on as normal until now several hours later I feel sick, lightheaded, like I can't breathe properly (although I can) and aware of my pounding heart. Can anxiety show itself several hours later? I'm still feeling a bit worried of course but this seems out of proportion

That's definitely a panic attack, and no wonder. Take some time to sit quietly, and it will pass.
