It means your dr is a generalist and does not want to be wrong. She is covering her ass. Totally normal.

The reason it's so far off is because there's nothing wrong and your doctor is practicing CYA medicine. Spend the extra money if you really feel you need to but it would be better spent on treating your mental health.

Hello in my last post I said about being referred to a cardiologist which is in December now out of the blue I have had a letter saying I have to have an echocardiogram I don't know why I have to have this I've seen the cardiologist yet and now I'm worried there was something on my 24 hour monitor that's shows something is wrong with my heart ' I only went to the doctors with palpitations ' I wish I hadent gone now .

Can anyone put a light on why I have to have this echocardiogram when I've heard these etopic beats are harmless I know to many of you this is nothing to worry about and routine but this is all new to me and very scary 'my appointment to see a doctor is not till January and now I have to have this test would they have seen something on the monitor other than these etopic beats I know there very common but I've never had them before and the thought of this scan is so frightening for me ' it's tomorrow I have to have it it's not having it done so much that scares me it's what if they find something ' I hope someone understands how I feel .thanks

    Hi Jackie,

I’m kind of in the same boat I know it’s scary and ectopic beats definitely wreak havoc with your anxiety. I know they have with mine so I’ve been struggling trying not to have them send me into a panic each time 🤦🏼*♂️. I also went through tests and even went to the ER because I was so worried. They saw the PVCs on my ecg and did chest X-ray, cardiac markers, and a ecg and said it was nothing to worry about. This helped a lot and I agree with the others that your doctor is just being thorough or maybe even trying to comfort you more by sending you to someone who specializes in the heart to also tell you you’re fine.

Even after I was told I’m totally fine I’m also scheduled to see a cardiologist it’s just protocol. An echo is also fairly standard protocol to just have extra information to back up an already definitive benign diagnosis. I’m supposed to get one too.

So hang in there and I’m trying to do the same! You’re fine and a doctor has already confirmed that.

    Best wishes!
    Nathan

    Re: Palpatations

Echocardiogram is always ordered by cardiologist when someone presents with ectopics/palpitations. Its standard and since you already have an appointment booked they are no doubt just getting ahead of everything so by the time you see the cardio all the basic testing has been completed and they will have your results to decide where they want to go from there. You normally get an EKG, holter or event monitor and an echocardiogram and this goes for everyone. The echocardiogram will tell them if your heart is structurally normal.

Keep in mind that had they found anything alarming on your holter you wouldn't be waiting until December to see a specialist, they would have gotten you in right away and for this reason you should keep your money and just wait out your upcoming appointment...
