Unfortunately the radiotherapy keeps working for two weeks after treatment finishes, so don't be surprised if it gets worse before better. If she has any skin breakdown issues she must contact the bcn, as they can prescribe necessary creams or dressings during the healing process.

Carys, how long was it before you had a follow up after radiotherapy as the wife has to go to see them after 3 weeks after being told it would be 6 weeks and she is now very concerned.

I was surprised when you said 6 weeks to be honest, mine was much earlier than that. I had a follow up maybe 2 weeks after RT - the consultant took a look at the skin, went through a questionnaire about my feelings LOL etc. and discharged me back to the surgeon's care for further treatment discussions.

She also has an appointment with a nurse on Monday that has a questionnaire about her feelings, skin conditions and problems so wondered why she would need to see the specialist as well.

WHo is she going back to see, the oncologist or surgeon ? Different areas of the country have different hospital policies about the timescales for seeing patients, so its hard to make a judgement, but does your wife know what the aim of this next appointment was ?

I'm trying to cast my mind back over three years now. I finished RT at the end of June and next time I was meant to see the surgeon was at the 'end of the summer'. What the 'end of the summer' means never became clear, as they forgot me totally anyway lol I recall ringing up at the end of OCtober and I had been forgotten! The fact that it is now 3 weeks rather than 6 could be something as simple as your wife will now be onto the 6 monthly surgeon check-up cycle (as she will be discharged from the oncologist and back to the surgeon), this cycle continues for 2 or sometimes 3 years. SO, maybe that day is the one the surgeon has their next clinic booked for?! I am presuming there are currently no oustanding results you are waiting on ?

Don't worry then Kestral its probably a follow-up from RT and seeing the oncologist is necessary after that treatment (an appointment which they forgot to give me). Are you waiting on any other scans or tests ? If you aren't then it could be a case of the oncologist seeing how hormone medication is going and discharging back to the surgeon's care. If your wife is concerned, then there is one way to find out - give her Breast CAncer Nurse a ring and ask why her appointment seems to have moved earlier.

Carys, She has what looks like a mole appear on the breast that the cancer was removed from so she has to have another mammogram to be arranged.to check it out. This seems to be endless.

    Hiyer Kestral,

It could just be related to the RT as that does cause skin changes - I know I had some including very dark patches appear, in addition to being dark brown in a large square, and I've heard of others with some oddities too including moles and clusters of moles. Have they not suggested biopsying it ? I'm afraid that the next few years will feel a little - errrm - like they jump at every symptom or blotch or, well, anything anywhere on the body really. Its good actually, as it means a very close eye is being kept on your wife and nothing will pass them by. I know it feels so draining for you, and it certainly doesn't feel very positive when things come up that you didn't expect, but you have done so well this far and I'm sure you will carry on doing so.
