I've read enough to know that acceptance strategies and meditation can cure depression provided you allow plenty of time. I guess it's different for each person according to length of illness and age

I'm not sure whether it's a cure, but it can certainly alleviate the symptoms. It does take plenty of practice, though, and you have to remember to work at it even during the good times.
While meditation alone can be effective, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy which combined meditation with CBT/REBT techniques may produce faster, longer lasting results.
Took me a while, but now that I've incorporated Meditation into daily happenings, I notice its helps me to better recognize that I'm doing something to help myself with anxiety and depression rather than (alone) rely on pills. Sometimes its easier than others and depending on the severity of the symptoms, or circumstances that are causing the depression. Sometimes when meditation wont give me relief, I need to do my best to escape the situation to bring things back to manageable. Not a cure but a useful tool is I how I see it. Sadly I didn't start meditation until I hit my 40s, wish I started sooner.
Good luck and hopefully you will give it a try.
Hi Blue, panic, Sal
Thanks for your kind replies.
The word "cure" is the wrong one. I meant to say "help to recover" which is a more attainable goal.
I have been meditating a few months already. I listen to recordings of Dr. Claire Weekes and believe that meditation helps with acceptance.
