Parotid gland or something else?

I have a lump in that place on one side of my jaw. I'm really scared, but the last time I saw my doctor about six months ago he said he couldn't feel it. It gets really swollen and painful.

Nancy's comment above is my worst fear. Sadly I can't seem to get past my GP to see an ENT about it. It feels like every time I go to my doctors I start crying because I'm so anxious about it, and then all they see is my anxiety.

My worst fear was that it was salivary cancer and it was not.

However, it was a tumor and it was not going to go away on its own.

An ENT or oral surgeon is the "right" dr to see. He had several GPs tell him it's nothing, well, until it was distorting the side of his face then they referred him. (His fault too, we don't need referrals to go)

Your dentist is also a good choice.

I do not know how common these tumors are but it happened to my son, which feels like the most random thing in the world.

I bet you're just fine, but get it checked out properly so you can have peace of mind.

Thanks Nancy. That's true, my mind immediately leaps to cancer and although a tumor should not be ignored it isn't always the case.

I have a dentist check up next week so I may mention it then and see what she says about it.
