    Referrral to Gastroenterology

    Hi

I posted a couple of weeks ago about some bowel symptoms, diarrhoea, rectal soreness, pressure and general discomfort.

The GP ordered a calproctein test which has come back at 213 normal is under 50.

Needless to say this has put me in a tailspin as I know it can also indicated Bowel cancer. I spoke to the GP and she said she wasn't looking at it for that she had done the test because I'd had IBS for years and years predominantly diarrhoea and she wanted to rule out IBD.

She said I didn't have any red flags for BC but obviously I'm still in a bit of a state.

I just have this constant feeling or soreness/discomfort in the rectum which feels like I need the toilet all of the time. I also find I'm leaking small amounts of mucus (sorry TMI)

Has anyone else had a high result on this test that turned out to be ok? Looking back over the years I have had on off rectal problems as I've had a sigmoidoscopy a few years ago where she said I was inflamed and prescribed steroid based suppositories. I then had problems a few years ago and was prescribed a foam which cleared things up. Then six months ago I was prescribed a cream for similar symptoms which again seemed to ease things up for a few months.

I'm just worried about it being rectal cancer and know I'll be stressing for weeks until I've had the necessary tests.

    Thanks

    Re: Referrral to Gastroenterology

The important thing to remember here is that your symptoms are being successfully treated by medications aimed at roids. They wouldn't work on cancer. And your GP isn't concerned either so it sounds like a ruling out type of doctor test as best practice.

Have a look at your previous thread about symptoms where I mentioned I have had much the same for years with nothing changing. It comes and goes. Others on here have spoken about mucus too and leakage of bits of poo happens too (so you have to wipe again later).

    Re: Referrral to Gastroenterology

    Thanks Terry

I do keep trying to reassure myself with the fact that I have periods free of symptoms! It seems to have got a lot worse over the last year with flares but then again I've had quite a lot of stress at work and home so that never helps with "stomach issues".

It's just the waiting and needless to say Dr Google has been very kind in throwing up a whole host of horror stories!

I'm trying to put it to the back of my mind and not allow the HA to take over.

    Thank you
