Cervical screening

I had my cervical screening a couple of days ago and I'm feeling a bit anxious waiting for the results.

I've had 3 smears before and never had abnormal results. I know so many people who have, though, and I'm starting to think it might be my turn.

They do it differently now and check for HPV first. For my first 3 smears I hadn't had sex with more than 3 men, so it makes sense I wouldn't have contracted HPV, but in the last couple of years I've had sex with 5 more men and so I feel like I could have contracted it now.

Apparently 13% of women will have HPV on their cervix at any given time, and I think more than half of those will have abnormal changes.

I just don't want to have HPV or especially abnormal changes. It's really not what I need at the moment. Feeling pretty anxious about things.

I don’t think you’ll have long to wait for the results now, so it’s just a case of managing your thoughts for the next week or so.
Stating the figures you quoted, it’s still very unlikely that there will be any problems.

It’s always such an anxious wait though.
