    Eye/Vision Mystery, completely lost!

    Hey Guys.

Been a while since i've been back here, mostly been able to cope with my symtpoms of anxiety and they have been a lot better than they were before, yet I somehow find myself back here.

I have a strange issue with my eyes that doctors and eye specialists can't seem to find.

    - I can see small white/clear shapes in my vision, usually near the center, they come and go, completely randomly, can sometimes see them when my eyes are closed at night. Like a small circle sometimes a longer line.

    - There's sometimes a dull aching pain behind my left eye, nothing too serious, but can be there every day.

I've had my eyes checked by a private eye specialist, also been to Optegra eye hospital and nobody knows what it is or can even tell me what i might be. The eye specialist recently said sometimes we just don't know, you can go for a brain scan if you like.

I feel like a brain scan is a bit overkill, as most things with stress tend to resolve themselves.

Has anybody had any similar issues with their eyes? I have eye floaters btw, i already know what they are like, much darker and more stationary, this is like a visual 'overlay' almost like it's coming from the brain rather than an issue with the eyes.

    Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I have similar symptoms. My left eye feels dryer and just a bit different to my right. Not sore so much, just more prominent and I have the floating white dots too. I do wonder if it’s something very simple but we’re noticing more because we are so focused on it! I’m not going to let it worry me. I’ll get an optician next week. Until then I have to do my best not to spiral or google. I hope you get it resolved soon too

Just realised this was a year ago! Will leave my reply here in cases it helps anybody...

I have something similar at the moment. I've just had my second cataract operation and I KNOW my eyes have been checked, double and triple-checked and I've had scans of the optic nerve - it is INCREDIBLY unlikely there could be anything wrong.

Other than anxiety focusing me on my vision...

The aching will almost definitely be dryness if you have been checked out. Sometimes optoms have missed this with me but specialists have always mentioned it, and one explained to me why it makes your eye ache (sorry can't remember why - but it does!) Definitely try lots of eye drops and see what happens...

Funny shapes- if I think about it I have had those for many years, it's just I've never sat and wondered if my eyes are ok after surgery before.

I've come to the conclusion that it's anxiety - which has been pretty miraculously low level during the pandemic - finally making its attack in a way I hadn't expected. It's REALLY REALLY common to have eye issues with anxiety, and now I've realised this I am already worrying less.

Which of you mentioned the brain scan first? They can see so much in eye exams (the eye is the only visible part of the brain, spooky isn't it!). I really doubt they would 'recommend' oneif you felt like it - either they'd beable to see that you needed one, or not. Perhaps they were responding to a remark you made? I think your remark about it being overkill shows that deep down you are ok and know this is anxiety.

Just keep talking on here and we will all 'see' each other through!
