Spotting for 4/5 days before period properly starts

Does anybody else get this?? I’m trying to remain rational and keep a decent perspective on it. I’ve struggled with HA for years and trying to keep my sh”t together and not worry myself about anything sinister.
Does anybody know if it can be a sign of a cycle where you haven’t ovulated?? I’ve been doing a lot of long distance running and my body fat % is v low so perhaps linked to that??
I’m up to date with smears.

If you're up to date with smears, I wouldn't worry about it. Heavy exercise can make your hormones go wonky anyway.

Spotting used to be my #1 trigger, but luckily I have a really sussed GP who basically said that periods are weird and it's generally no big deal.

Thank you Blueiris xxx it’s such a trigger isn’t it and one that is very hard to escape from unless you undress/visit bathroom in the dark.
I made the mistake of googling spotting- hoping to find some useful hormone related information but instead the story came up from an ovarian C website where mid cycle bleeding was the lady’s only symptom and I just , well it really terrified me. The thought of leaving my 3 young children without a mother 😢

I started using running as my anxiety ‘medication ‘ but perhaps I’ve taken it too far. Think I need to talk to the gp...

I'm in my 40s now; spotting used to be the one thing that would completely incapacitate me, but I'm much better at rationalising now.

Yes, I've had that my whole life. I'm 31 now. I've never had an abnormal smear. In my case I think it may be a progesterone issue.
