Okay so with this coronavirus pandemic being utter chaos I am washing my hands more frequently but have noticed a small patch on my hand become red, dry and cracking. Is this some sort of reaction to the soap?

Yes almost definitely.
Put some hand cream/lotion on it. Definitely before you go to sleep too.

You don't need to be aggressive with hand washing - just a normal hand wash but for longer. Don't give yourself new problems by being obsessed with the hand washing.
