Glad you have a booked appt for your 1st one. Worry about the 2nd one later on? They were getting people in off the street for their 2nd when I took my daughter for hers last Monday so it all depends on supply and availability on the day.

Well despite the renewed scares over the Indian variant in the UK, today's cases have actually fallen, albeit still in the 2k range.

The first jabs being doled out are now at the their highest levels once again since around the end of March, and very likely buoyed by the 'surge vaccinations' in the areas currently worst affected by the Indian variant.

For the record, it's a fortnight tomorrow since I had my second jab, so hopefully I should be mostly OK by now.

So it's basically back indoors, doom and gloom for everyone again now because of this Indian variant?

I knew this would happen. Everyone's been all positive but at the back of my mind I couldn't help thinking of this variant.

The roadmap hasn’t changed, they’re going ahead with it as planned. They are bringing second vaccine doses forward for over 50’s and performing surge testing in affected areas.

Cases of the Indian variant have tripled in a week so they have to jump on the flames to stop it spreading. One area I think the Government have actually performed well in is detecting and halting newer variants. Think of the hubbub over the Brazil and South African variants only a few weeks back, they’ve completely disappeared from the radar.

It’s really not all doom and gloom, in fact a more positive way of looking at it is that in the last 4 or 5 months we’ve shown a real ability to start fighting back against this virus. This is simply another battle in a really horrible war.

It’s a bleak situation. Areas in lockdown some of scotland remaining level 3. Happens every time all despite cases being very low and no increase. Last time this happened cases were rising but not this time. Time to cancel 2021 and write it off and hope 2022 is better?

Exactly. We can now see this will go on and on all 2021 no freedom atall. Even if they do face masks and distancing could be back by the winter. The average pandemic lasts 2 years so if we are still suffering this by March 2022 something is wrong.

Areas in Scotland, one of which I live in, have been kept in level 3 for a further week. Moray and Glasgow. The cases in Moray are 62 per 100,000. In Glasgow it’s around 80 per 100,000. The cases in Moray have largely been linked to a school outbreak and in Glasgow its rumoured that the outbreaks are in areas where folk are turning down the vaccine due to religious beliefs.

Still, the doom and gloom attitude on display here is utterly over the top. A further week to squash the spikes in two areas of the country. The rest of the country will be placed in level 2 as planned.

For the love of God, cheer up a bit!

You'll still be suffering in 2032 Phil. You'll find something.

Phil, just remember we all need to take nearly everything the Daily Fail says with a pinch of salt.

I also think you're being a bit premature in writing off 2021 as a whole, as we're still not even 6 months into the year.
