Another whopping drop in cases today!

6k today vs 9k last Sunday.

IIRC, 6k recorded cases was the peak number last April during the original first wave in the UK, though actual cases were probably far higher as only a handful of Covid tests were being carried out at that time, unlike now where testing is far more widespread.

I don't mean to sound like a smart alec, but I thought it was only daily death counts that are affected by the weekend lags, not daily case counts.

Plus there were the odd occasions last year when cases actually did go up on Sundays.

So why does it always rise again by Tuesday?

It generally seems to be Wednesdays when cases rise, but does sometimes happen on Tuesdays.

Last week there was an increase in cases on Monday, which was rather unusual, and seemingly random.

Since the start of January, cases have also been known to increase on Fridays, though the last couple of weeks seem to have bucked that trend.

Who knows the true reasons behind this?

Perhaps compare to previous weekends? The daily cases continue to show a nice consistent downward trend

    Absolutely Terry.

I think there are certain 'know-it-all' individuals who seem to revel in doubt, pessimism and contradiction whenever there's some more positive news on anything.

This can be with other (non-Covid) issues like crime, the economy, you name it, but there will always be some 'strawman' somewhere.

BTW, I wasn't specifically referring to you PM, just people in general.

Hate to bring politics up again but I'm worried over here in Scotland due to the news of "tighter restrictions" with many now saying that Nicola Sturgeon is trying to control us, which I hope isn't true at all. :(
